Experimental data of the laboratory investigation for the design of a new filter cartridge for water treatment
2019
Abstract The data provided here refers to the experimental laboratory investigation conducted in the Laboratory of Environmental and Maritime Hydraulics (LIDAM) of University of Salerno, Italy, with the aim of developing a new filtering cartridge for water treatment capable of overcoming the main inconveniences shown by usual commercial cartridges. Specifically, the proposed filtering cartridge is an economic, non-toxic, low-resistance and long-life cartridge, currently under a patent pending status, whose main advantage is to permit to significantly reduce, compared with the commercial cartridges, average head losses induced by the cartridge even for high clogging degrees, and to increase,…
Pressure pain thresholds: Subject factors and the meaning of peak pressures.
2017
Background The assessment of pressure pain has become an integral part in pain research. The distribution of pressure under a plunger can be uneven. However, measurements based on conventional devices show the applied force or mean pressure, failing to take local pressure peaks into account. Our main question was whether peak pressures under the probe are responsible for pain onset. Methods A force-controlled algometer was fitted with a newly developed pressure-indicating film. Pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) of 100 healthy subjects (57 men, age 18-66 years) were assessed at 29 sites across the body. Each site was measured three times, nonconsecutively and presented in randomized order. For…

Ideal bulk pressure of active Brownian particles
2016
The extent to which active matter might be described by effective equilibrium concepts like temperature and pressure is currently being discussed intensely. Here, we study the simplest model, an ideal gas of noninteracting active Brownian particles. While the mechanical pressure exerted onto confining walls has been linked to correlations between particles' positions and their orientations, we show that these correlations are entirely controlled by boundary effects. We also consider a definition of local pressure, which describes interparticle forces in terms of momentum exchange between different regions of the system. We present three pieces of analytical evidence which indicate that such…
Unilateral Accessory Sacroiliac Joint with Bone Marrow Edema Mimicking Sacroiliitis.
2018
Accessory sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is described as a common anatomical variant, identified in 13–18% and up to 40% of the general population1,2. It can be unilateral or bilateral and is related to aging, obesity, or women with multiple deliveries2,3. The patient, a 53-year-old white woman, presented with low back pain and left buttock pain for 6 months. She had no fever and local pressure on left SIJ reproduced …
